Quick answers for common issues.
A file does not open or play
Try opening the file with File → Open, then confirm that the file plays in another app and is not still downloading or stored only in the cloud. APlay supports common containers including MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI, and WebM, but a file may still use an unsupported or damaged codec.
There is no sound or the wrong language is playing
Open the audio track menu and select another available track. Also check the Mac’s output device and volume in Control Center. Some files contain audio formats or channel layouts that the selected output device cannot decode.
Subtitles are missing or out of sync
Select an embedded subtitle track or load an external SRT, ASS, SSA, or VTT file. For the best automatic match, keep the video and subtitle files in the same folder with matching names. Subtitle timing in the source file can also affect synchronization.
Playback stutters or HDR does not look right
Close other graphics-intensive apps, try the file from local storage, and confirm that macOS is up to date. HDR appearance also depends on the display, macOS display settings, and the media’s color metadata.
How do I report a crash or repeatable problem?
Email the steps that reproduce the issue, your APlay and macOS versions, and any crash report macOS provides. We use this information only to investigate your support request.
Does APlay require an account or upload my media?
No. APlay opens media from your Mac and does not require an account or maintain an online media library. For more information, read our Privacy Policy.
